Sending energy

My name is Mark Garry I am a visual artist and musician based in Dublin Sending letters to the sea is a collaborative music project that I finished in November of last year.A more detailed description of the project in the bottom of this post . The project culminated in the release of an album. I am all the participants found the collaboration between Conceptual art and Music interesting from a number of perspectives and I have set up this blog s a means to highlight and discuss other contemporary art and music collaborations and crossovers.

Sending letters to the sea is collaborative musical project initiated by Visual artist and Musician, Mark Garry. Mark developed and realised this musical collaboration entitled “Sending Letters to the sea “ through the funding and support of Fingal County councils Arts office as part of a Public art panel that invited artists, to respond to an open brief in the context of Fingal with the aim of expanding the notion of public art and role of the local authority as a commissioner of new practices. This record was recorded in Studio east Berlin and St Columbus Church, Swords County Dublin. The Title of this Album was influenced by an art project by young north American artist John Pena entitled "Letters to the Ocean" for A Moratorium on Make-Believe, while undertaking a Master of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This projects brings together range of Irish and French musicians and vocalists , working in an equally broad range of genres: The album was composed by : Mark Garry ( Nina Hynes ,(Guitar, Mandolin, Piano, Vocals) Karl Burke (aka Karl Him) Sean Carpio. (Percussion, Guitar, Vocals, Melodica) Fabien Leseure, (Piano, Vocals, Scores for Choir, Scores for strings). Lyrics By Nina Hynes and Mark Garry. String and choral arrangement by Fabien Leseure. The Album was recorded and produced by Fabien Leseure . Additional Musicians and vocalists : Rhona Byrne (Vocals) Eileen Carpio (Vocals and composition) Benoit Leseure (Violin) Geaspar Warfield (Cello) John Egan (Violin, Viola) Fingal chamber choir.
